Uzbekistan will become chairman of the CIS Health Cooperation Council
TASHKENT, Oct 7 – Sputnik. Uzbekistan will become the chairman of the CIS Health Cooperation Council in 2026, reports the press service of the Commonwealth Executive Committee.
The health ministers of the CIS countries discussed the main results of cooperation in Dushanbe and identified promising areas of interaction.
The meeting was held within the framework of the chairmanship of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan in the Council for Cooperation in the Field of Health Care of the CIS.
CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev sent greetings to the participants.
Within the Commonwealth, there is a clear understanding that preserving the health of the citizens of our countries requires joint collective efforts, open, result-oriented dialogue. I am confident that the interaction of heads of healthcare systems is an effective factor in ensuring the modern level of health protection for the population of the CIS member states.

Members of the Council considered 27 issues: discussed trends in cancer incidence rates in the pre- and post-Covid periods, analyzed the situation with diabetes and the possibilities of using artificial intelligence in diabetology, identified areas of cooperation in the prevention of NCDs and especially dangerous infections, organization and provision of medical care in emergency situations.
A central place was given to holding the Year of Health Protection in the CIS in 2026. This event will be a significant stage in the development of the region’s healthcare systems and strengthening international cooperation. The emblem of the Year of Health, developed by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan, was approved, and a Plan of main events for the thematic year was formed.
The initiative to chair the Council for Cooperation in the Field of Health Care of the CIS during 2026 of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan was supported.
