Shavkat Mirziyoyev notes the great potential of sericulture to create jobs
During his visit to Khorezm, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized himself with Khiva Silk Fabric now operating in Khiva district.
The first phase of the project, implemented through the modernization of an empty building, was commissioned in August 2018. The equipment is made in China.
The enterprise organized by the cluster method is capable of processing over 140 tons of dry cocoons per year. It employs 110 people, mostly women. In the region, one thousand permanent and 30 thousand seasonal workers are involved in silk production.
The head of state got acquainted with the activities of the enterprise, talked with employees. He said that the silk industry has a great potential for providing jobs, especially for women, it is necessary to import large-leaf mulberry varieties from abroad, to create such enterprises in each district, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said.
Starting next year, the company will begin to manufacture fabrics and ready-made clothes from silk yarn, as well as production of chrysalide oil. Oil obtained from silkworm pupae, which are rich in protein, is a valuable raw material in cosmetology. In China, 1 liter of this oil costs about 40-50 dollars.
The company also intends to master the production of chitin and chitosan, dietary supplements, canned their pupae, tea and sweets from mulberry leaves.
Export contracts worth US$1.1 million have already been signed. It is planned to deliver 15 tons of silk products and 12 tons of silk wool to China, 1 ton of silk products to Pakistan.
It also hosted a presentation of promising projects for the development of animal husbandry, poultry farming, fish farming and horticulture, the expansion of the harvesting and export of melons, and the cultivation of rice as a main and second crop.
The President gave instructions on the quality implementation of projects, providing the population with high-quality food products, increasing jobs and sources of income.
Getting acquainted with the work done on the reconstruction of the main irrigation canals "Toshsoka", Uzbek leader noted the need for accelerated construction work, the implementation of similar projects aimed at water conservation, and in other regions of the country.
