Child mortality in Uzbekistan has decreased by a quarter

In Uzbekistan, the maternal mortality rate has decreased by 34%, and the mortality rate of children under five has decreased by 26%, Podrobno.uz correspondent reports.Acting Minister of Health Asilbek Khudayarov told the deputies of the Oliy Majlis Legislative Chamber about this in his report on the work on disease prevention among children and adolescents and their treatment.
The reduction in child and maternal mortality has been achieved through prevention, early detection and rehabilitation of diseases at the primary level of the healthcare system, as well as measures to improve specialized medical care.
Work is underway in the regions of the country to monitor, analyze, identify deficiencies in the care provided to mothers and children on the principle of “365 days/24 hours” and eliminate them.
Children's anesthesiology and resuscitation departments and children's departments in polyclinics have been created in medical associations. An additional 20 thousand pediatric nurses and visiting midwives work in medical teams. Children's departments and girls' health departments have been opened in district and city central multidisciplinary polyclinics.
During the first half of 2024, doctors performed 1,962 cardiac surgeries, 460 endoscopic and 583 neurosurgical high-tech operations, preventing 2,985 children from becoming disabled.
In addition, 200.2 thousand newborns underwent audio screening, 267 children were given cochlear implants, which allow them to hear.
The deputies emphasized the need to take measures to fully provide medical institutions with medicines, medical equipment and consumables. It is also important to review the procedure for sending a guaranteed package, basic prices and a preferential contingent for specialized medical care.
In addition, they made proposals for remote services, transferring polyclinics and hospitals to electronic case management, completing work on digitalization of the healthcare system, forming a healthy lifestyle, strengthening the promotion of proper nutrition and physical activity.
