Prices for 2,600 prescription drugs will be reduced in Uzbekistan from the beginning of 2026

Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with information about the production of pharmaceutical products, attracting investments, implementing projects in the industrial zone of the pharmaceutical cluster "Tashkent Pharma Park", as well as work to ensure the quality and safety of medicines.

TASHKENT, November 3 – Sputnik. In Uzbekistan, from January 1, 2026, average prices for 2.6 thousand prescription drugs are expected to decrease by 40−50%. And to avoid the purchase of low-quality goods, all purchases will be carried out through a special electronic platform farma.xarid.uz. This was reported by the press service of the head of state.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with information about the production of pharmaceutical products, attracting investments, implementing projects in the industrial zone of the pharmaceutical cluster “Tashkent Pharma Park”, as well as the ongoing work to ensure the quality and safety of medicines.

Enterprises in the industry produced products worth 5 trillion soums, exported goods worth $172 million. $286 million of investments were disbursed, of which $257 million were foreign.

35 domestic companies have mastered the production of 205 types of medicines, the number of export countries has reached 55. This year, 16 projects worth a total of $29 million were commissioned, 830 new jobs were created.

To ensure quality and safety, the GMP standard has been implemented at 61 enterprises, GDP at 486 distribution warehouses, and GPP at 9,450 pharmacies.

Measures to prevent manipulation in the formation of reference prices for imported drugs were also considered. Currently, out of 7.6 thousand types of imported medicines, 4.9 thousand are not included in the price registers of reference countries.

According to the proposed measures, from January 1, 2026, average prices for 2.6 thousand prescription drugs are expected to decrease by 40-50 percent.

Issues of improving the mechanisms of government procurement of pharmaceutical products were also considered. In order to exclude the purchase of low-quality goods and corruption factors, all purchases will be carried out through a special electronic platform farma.xarid.uz.

“After the launch of this system, only manufacturers, distributors and suppliers who have all the necessary certificates (GMP, ISO: 13485 GDP) will be able to participate in public procurement,” the press service noted.

The volumes of government procurement, as well as registers of certified manufacturers and distributors, will be open to the public. The system will automatically check that the price of purchased drugs does not exceed the established reference level.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to develop a special platform by January 1, 2026 to formulate the needs of public medical institutions for medicines and medical equipment, as well as to effectively manage surpluses.

The President was also provided with information about the new procedure for state registration of medicines and medical devices.

The new mechanism provides for the establishment of production based on technology transfer, which will allow foreign pharmaceutical companies to produce products using the capacities of local manufacturers and undergo state registration in an expedited manner.

“Conditions are being created for the introduction into medical practice of new types of biotechnological cell preparations designed to treat damaged tissues, grow individual organs and restore the body’s functionality,” the statement says.

Clinical trials of generics and evaluation of their results will be carried out in accordance with international standards, and the time frame for registration of such drugs will be reduced. Medical products of the first safety class (except for sterile, measuring and invasive) are exempt from laboratory and clinical tests.

The President approved the proposals presented and instructed that by the end of 2025, 32 investment projects with a total value of $166 million should be fully put into operation, create 1,500 new jobs, increase production and export volumes, and ensure a reduction in prices for prescription drugs.
